Emerging markets companies often suffer larger discounts than their mature-market peers due to perceptions of weaker internal controls, decision-making processes, minority shareholder protections and governmental enforcement of securities regulations. Cartica systematically seeks out companies whose management, owners and/or board of directors are eager to enter into a productive partnership to establish strong operational, financial and governance systems to enhance their operations and their market value.

Cartica invests primarily in listed companies using private equity-style due diligence and intense sectoral research. Typically Cartica takes meaningful equity stakes in a negotiated transaction.
